Overview

What is a flatbed truck? It's an open platform trailer, with no sidewalls or roof, used to transport cargo that's too large, heavy, or difficult to load onto a closed trailer. Also known as a flatbed trailer or platform semi-trailer, it's one of the most common configurations in Mexico for industrial freight. It's available in 40', 48', and 53' configurations, either as a standalone trailer or as part of a flatbed tractor-trailer combination.

The flatbed truck is offered in 40', 48', and 53' configurations, each with its own load capacity and volume, detailed in the table above. Unlike a closed trailer, it has no fixed sidewalls or roof — the flat deck is fully exposed, with tie-down points distributed along the structure to secure cargo with chains, straps, or corner protectors. This openness is what allows loading and unloading from the sides, from above with a crane, or via ramp, depending on the equipment available on site.

What Can It Carry?

A flatbed truck is suitable for steel, pipe, industrial machinery, and oversized cargo. With no fixed sidewalls or roof, it allows flexible loading methods, such as side-loading or crane loading from above. For smaller volumes, a rabón truck with a flatbed body is also available.

Which Size Should You Choose?

The 40' works well for compact, heavy loads like steel coils, short machinery, or dense industrial equipment. The 48' and 53' are better suited for pipe, structural beams, prefabricated structures, or other cargo that needs more length, even if it isn't especially heavy. The decision also depends on whether the load will be secured with chains, straps, or requires specific anchoring for its shape.
